A Look Ahead: 2024 Mercy Works Programs

In a society driven by innovation and technological advancements, the need for well-rounded education is more important than ever. Traditional education is being supplemented by STEAM programs — the integration of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. This holistic strategy prepares students for the real-world challenges of the 21st century.

That’s why Mercy Works designs our lineup of programs to incorporate STEAM education. When students combine the disciplines of STEAM and use both the right and left sides of their brains at once, it offers many important benefits, including:

1) Creativity

Creativity might seem like a skill that comes instinctually but it can actually be fostered by a proper STEAM education that teaches the capacity to think outside the box with creative solutions (Lathan, 2022).

2) Critical Thinking

The lack of rigidly defined rules encourages STEAM learners to demonstrate adaptive critical thinking, think around a given problem, and consider the effects produced by changing different variables (Romano, 2018).

3) Leadership

STEAM learning provides students with the experiences necessary to become creative, adaptable leaders and, in turn, the confidence and problem-solving that comes with strong leadership (Martin, 2021).

At Mercy Works, our programs engage students in ways that validate, encourage, and prepare them for a technologically advanced workforce. Take a look ahead at our exciting programs launching in the New Year:

Synergy — May 28  - August 2, 2023

Synergy is a 10-week leadership development and paid internship program for college students targeted toward their field of study. This program is designed to cultivate strong professional skills and offers the development, training, and exposure they need to succeed.

PAL Project —  January 23 - Apr 26, 2023

In partnership with Syracuse University, the Photography and Literacy (PAL) Project is a 12-week experience for junior high school students designed to take them through an inquiry-based educational photography and literacy journey, where they develop writing and visual skills through technical photography.

Digital Music Lab — January 25, - April 18, 2023

Digital Music Lab is a 12-week music lab for students to develop music composition and production skills. Jr. High and High School students explore Patterns Beatmaker, the Loop Tabs, MIDI instruments, and Audio Recording, and collaborate with other students to create great beats. The program culminates with a Beats Showcase where students present their finished tracks.

By exposing our students to STEAM programming, we ensure they are well-rounded and prepared for the ever-changing road ahead. We’re thrilled to invest in the future success of our students in the upcoming year. To receive the latest updates on Mercy Works programming, sign up for our monthly newsletter below.
